Pyfyxfyru is a solo project from Alcoholonomicon, it of Tjolgtjar, Blood Cult, Ängelust and Xexys infamy, among many other uniquely wyrd bands and projects. 5 tracks of deranged, possessed Black Heavy Metal in lunatic throes of devotion to the dark one, blasphemous to an obsessive, absurd degree, and preserved in a starkly dry and up-front recording quality, hiding none of it’s thrills behind lo-fi fog. Lithe deadly NWOBHM riffs entwined with frosty stabbing Black Metal riff sweeps and luscious lustful lead work, melodious and imperious Bass and alternately minimally hypnotic and severely rockin’ drumming driving the songs forward, with breathless passages of sweeping Black Metal leading around unseen mirrored corners to more psychedelic early-Kiss-channeling Hard Black Rock’n’Roll sections straight from blazing fucking hades, embellished with ecstatic melodic vocal and clean soul-chilling key tones. The Bass playing in particular is stellar, provoking unforseeable melodic textures and galloping rhythm in these orgiastic odes to Satan. This is a seriously addictive, killer sound, reveling in it’s over the top 70’s occult lunacy with a wry wink and a hard on. Gleaming, gloaming, deliciously purple Black Heavy Metal Satanism!

Guinea-Bissau born producer Teteu aka Normal Nada The Krakmaxter is a maverick’s maverick. Arguably the most enigmatic denizen of Lisbon’s vibrant electronic underground, his refractory hybrids of kuduro, tarraxinha and a host of other kinetic non-regional styles are amongst the sharpest serrations currently lending bite to dance music’s cutting edge. Released via Ugandan experimental imprint Nyege Nyege Tapes, Nada’s long-awaited debut full-length is nothing short of glorious; a flash flood of surging rhythmic improbability purpose crafted to rip a dancefloor from its foundations and send it hurtling towards the asteroid belt. Opening salvo ‘Beautiful Chaos’ offers a perfect summation of the album’s buccaneering ethos, exploding like a nailbomb in an ether huff of strung out syncopations and hornet swarm bass fuzz. The title track is even less constrained, its somersaulting snares and peals of haemorrhagic synth-grind seemingly beamed in from a parallel universe where the Young Gods have wrested control of clubland. Late highlight ‘Nai Na Chi’ flirts tantalisingly with the sort of zero gravity footwork that made DJ Rashad’s ‘Double Cup’ such a frisson-inducing mindfuck, but the album’s most startling transmission is also its least frenetic. A languid counterpart to the preceding half-hour of mayhem, ‘Dedicado ao sem abrigo esperanca ou quando a esperanca morre’ is a delectably creamy slice of downtempo tarraxinha that wouldn’t sound out of place on a Space Afrika album. Put some metal in your macrocosm.

Colossal dungeon serpent Death Crust from Singapore’s Doldrey. Deathly and despotic, crusading Crust from the deep, deformed in it’s darkened succor into a beast of mutant Death Metal, Stenchcore and Crust, with frosty elements of Black Metal and straight up Integrity style Holy Terror Hardcore too. Massive Guitars rippling with siege spikes form a wall of thrashing vast stench Crust, full of lithe Heavy Metal riffing and deaththrash chug, battering battlement Bass and cruiser pummeling drum work which stomps and heaves with savagery, heavily utilising tupa tupa D Beats and UK 82 style stomp along with descents into axe swinging breakdowns as it  smashes into the fray with a swift and thunderous rhythmic bent, all adorned with gritty puking Crust vocal. Gloomy, murderous Crust from the dark recesses, full of repeat-listen headbangin’ bangers. Get into it.

The fourth Fortune 500 compilation, a titanic statement of currency with Vaporwave’s dilapidated, miasmic halls of legend and relevancy. Echo chambers of recycled sound ephemera, prized dusty muzak loops crowned in hazy filter atrophy and repurposed to variably anti-capital agenda and/or smoking reality escape (not to mention the chin-stroking self import). An ephemeral mix of fantasist Vaporwave of various sub category, Smooth Jazz, Future Funk, Vapor House, Casinowave, Late Nite Lo-Fi and traditional smooth plunderphonics sounds and more within. Being untethered to physical media these compilations work best, each artist barely distinguishable from the next except to the most absurdly discerning and fanatical, Random Artist Memory banks… conversely, some of my favourite contributions come courtesy of VHS LOGOS, Soft Replica, bl00dwave, Tupperwave, b o d y l i n e, blair and luxury elite (of course), all heavy hitters from the vaporous late nite lo fi anonymity. To quote one intrepid youtube commenter, ‘Its like tripping down the stairs at your grandmas house’. Tune in, pop codeine and effervesce from reality.

Fortune 500

Morgue Tar is a pathological Goregrind project from the States featuring Travis Bickle , D Beat Goregind peddler, and Zach Fogle, fiendish character behind the ultimate filth worshipping GK favourite Metrorrhagia. Total sophomoric misanthropy, Gorenoise adjacent Goregrind filth stuffed full of maniacal, infectiously groovy E-Kit roller blasts and D Beats with thumping Bass drum, swimming beneath swollen girthy mid sound detuned-to-fukk Bass meat and gurgling roaring shifted blood bubbling vocal, a shower of bacterial goregrind pus and ichor, low minded lo-fi excellence. 18 short tracks with 3 tracks clocking in past the 5 minute mark, (Chapters 5, 11 and 21)  in which Morgue Tar grind their gore down to a noisewave no-rock death dynamic dirge, riding singular D Beats and rolling fills into sonic oblivion, careening to terminus in monotonous decompositional delirium. I hope Morgue Tar further explores this on future works (I’ll be checking out their most recent release next, a split with Gorenoise Capo Adam Rotella’s Low Budget Splatter Gore project). A gruesome, prurient pummeling from the deep Goregrind subterranea.

Split release from Mortville Noise maniacs Captain Three Leg and old-timer new-comers Burt Bacharach. Captain Three Leg provides a menu of short, sharp grinding strikes against the tide of fickle scene interest and goregrind goobers, stirring the pot with a shit-eating grin and bringing the laughs, their hetero-normative grump superfast Hardcore with blast beats and lyrical causticisms having been honed to a thing of shiny perfection. Still the finest samplers in the game. Burt Bacharach is a newer project featuring Tim Morse on drums, working at a scarcely populated Blurcore revival, insane speed worshipping Noisegrind intensity and silly-yet-deadly sonic weight ala early Anal Cunt, Sore Throat and Seven Minutes of Nausea. Dude is channeling Putnam in the deranged sick vocal delivery, tar-thick Guitar/Bass sound rumbles and grinds over blasting meatball blasts. Fucking killer, fucking fast, simple and perfect. Great split, as you can basically always expect from ol’ Mortville. Grab a CD.

Regurgitated Entrails surfaces from the US with their 2022 demo.  Putrid, bonesawing, deathgrinding Brutal Death Metal riffs cast in malefic abandon over ultra tight Bass and Drum blast, weaving old school Death Metal riffcraft and blasting Brutal Death Metal truculence. The drums carve super dryly produced grooves and corpulent, wicked sick slams, adorned with some particularly potent gravity blast sections, the Bass is enputridised with 808 bass drops and fluid, dexterous digital liquidity generating a torqued power beneath the impressively memorable riff structures, the vocal a torrent of extremely brutish, obstinate grunts and purrs to instigate lizard brain fury and multiple overkill stabbings. Perfectly evoked old school American Brutal Death Metal ala Regurgitation, Disgorge (US) or Necrotic Disgorgement with obligatory nods to Cephalotripsy and early Devourment. Total fucking sickness and obscenity.
