Massive Harsh Noise from an absolute master. 5 tracks of pulverizing Noise recorded at around the time of the immense ‘Gallon Gravy’, originally intended for release on Relapse/Release. Timbre unbearable massacre and source overload, agitating audial deluge, ego death and overwhelming sensory input, a wild live electricity energy and irreversible cataclysm that registers a fight or flight response in mammals – ‘Kill The Poor’ may be the tongue in cheek mission statement or the sincere call to arms, and in a sense it really doesn’t matter. Interpretive language in titles (Damon not Demon), the use of previous Pain Jerk covers as collage, rhythmic looped effects maligned into further shapes of noise and crushed out of all temporal recognition, high and low registers repelled from each other by massive magnetic shifts registering a million motives at once, squalling feedback channeled through unknowable processes. An assertion is here made that Pain Jerk is in many ways the de-facto old head of classic ‘dynamic’ style Japanese Harsh Noise. ‘Mission Invisible: Kill The Poor’ is behind the fuckling wire of consciousness, annihilating rationality and listening objectivity with terrible prejudice. Instant classic.

Hospital Productions

My favorite split 7″ from this era of Agoraphobic Nosebleed, released on Bones Brigade in 2007. An extra-ordinarily acidic collision of nihilist hysteria riffer Thrash skate Grind and broken Grind psychedelia anarchist mindbleed, with some of Florian Bertmer’s finest adorning the cover. ANb’s side features three of their very best tracks, for my money – ‘Self Detonate’s’ caustic spite could melt through a fuckin engine block, an ode to mindless drug abuse and demented knowledge-of-self set to mutant groove Thrash riffs at half speed, mid paced Hardcore skate cruise HATE and vocal just dripping in laconic indecency and unknowable disgusts. Then ‘Degenerate Liar’ and ‘Alcoholocaust’ lampoon and amuse with total Speed Metal riff feast, Thrash as fukk pre-drumkit from hell complex blast beats and tar-black lyrical causticisms, merciless witticism and sardonic inscrutability. Pete Benumb’s deranged vocal dribbling fury and the pinch-accented haggard riff playing out over the breakdown part at the close of ‘Degenerate Liar’, the long excruciating narcosis howl that beckons the second half of Self Detonate’s laughing kamikaze thermonuclear meltdown, the jazzy drum fills and details beneath the mean, mutating riff in ‘Alcoholocaust’ punching your stupid fuckin’ teeth out of your head – absolutely gnarly! Liable to rip and smash that nose right off your ugly mug (talk about fuckin’ ‘gore grind’). Then Total Fucking Destruction rip a bong, drop in all stupid crooked, bust a third eye on the coping and fall jammin’ into a free-associative grinding state of unconsciousness. ‘Last night I dreamt we destroyed the world’ unfurls a THC free-flow with drifting blast beats, warped sonic delirium and proselytizing of the inalienable truth of total PEACE, searing Bass jams with punchy yet pliable yogic blasting, overjoyed strumming, a stoned enigma under the half pipe, leading screaming and crazed into a possessed cover of The Exploited’s ‘Sid Vicious Was Innocent’. Peace Is, of course, the Victory. Some of TFD’s best shit, too, despite the brevity. Crucial 7″.

Bones Brigade Records

Satyrs prowl the streets with napalmed hearts, romantic cadavers ablaze, snotty irradiated Industrial Post Punk recorded on a Geiger counter with completely warped mutant Guitar sounds, Kevin Shields style with those whammy bends, killer narco bass buzz, everything driowned in a reverb hum perfection, warmly contaminated and suffocating like a fine powder in the atmosphere, melancholy and catchy songs – anarchic ‘Street Kraut’, super simplistic filth Post Punk Rock, irreverently glum and angry, stabbing neurotic and simple as a punch in the throat. Excellent bizarre gonzo lyrics, electronic beats and acoustic drums, Bauhaus on speed, storming and stomping through the abandoned world of the future primitive. Fucking brilliant and all too short.

Fuck Yoga

“No guitars and fuck two-second gaps”. A collage of tracks from 7″ records – grainy 3rd mind Noisecore/Grindcore cement-in-eyesocket BLAST –  damaging high register hammered-flat noise, sandpaper dermal abrasive clenched fist blast beats full of micro detail and shrieked aggro blurt madness vocal with audible enunciations, death grunts and pained yelps, cycling through the large capacity magazine very quickly indeed. Pedal chain(?) and Bass. Harsh as shit.  Each session blurs into the next, with a nice consistency of audial freak potency. Total face smash and burning grind, the impenetrable cut up ennui of SS’s kaleidoscopic blast further removing objectivity and context from the pummeling. As with most of the Sissy Spacek releases available on their bandcamp page, it’s important to note that if you’re streaming the player won’t be able to truly represent the pace of the record from track to track, as gaps are inevitable between songs. Download or purchase to experience the quickness. “The only band to make a Milton and a Mentors reference on the same album”. Word.

The Muff Divers from the States, both members are in other killer Punk, Rock and Hardcore bands like Culo, Nancy and Dangus Tarkus, amongst others. Sleazy Punk jizz, tongue in cheek Ramonescore Punk Rock for the uneducated and barely legal. Fuzzed up tuff guy chords and lots of bluesy licks, yelpy vocal and excellently simplistic drumming. Minimal and masterful, super catchy and totally dick ‘n’ puss crazed, childish and badass, fast and fucking awesome. Muff maestros, indeed.

3rd album from Argentina’s Sons of Marijuana, Mephistofeles. Stoned, insidious Rock n Roll blasphemies against taste… mid-era Electric Wizard sound, haunted melodies of rotten Blues, power trio Rock fungal mutation, slow working psilo-psychedlia of the black drug, sunken eyes rolling back in your head in a state of cannabis oil necrosis… odiously hazed sub-Iommi trill Guitar, venom dripping underworld Bass grooves and swinging monster creeper drums, now further penetrated and permeated with crypt organ churn and groan than on previous efforts. Satanic Sex Ceremonies is a slightly clearer, fuller-sounding affair than their previous full lengths, with a warmer, more syrupy production, reel to reel audial presence a velour cloak of narcotic fuzz. Several long passages of pilfered ambience from the B movie screen, pieces of night creature howl and scream. Eroticism amidst the sweet stench of corpses, the dying flowers of the hippy movement, vampires in bellbottoms, werewolves in velvet. Crypt music, indeed. Masterfully conjured Satanic Stoner Rock.

One long track from Jumalhämärä. A catastrophe of murky Black Metal pagan(?) insidiousness and thundering atypical rhythms, swirling and fluid, a cloak of Bass concealing razor treble Guitar lines and churning percussive, heretic bells and gongs, croaking gurning vocal under the influence of psychotropic emetic mead – a cauldron of darkside Floyd psychedelia and irrepressible bad feelings, working through movements slowly and attaining a beehive atmosphere of mudbath noise and folk instrumentation. A journey beginning in strange Black Metal groove and Drone, and concluding in gently rousing folkish melodies, minimal guitar(?) sounds and field recordings, wet stones and potent natural aural events… then ascension and cleansing, pristine beats and bellowing, beauteous sounds command the final plunge and purge as the purifying muds impart their minerals. Weird and excellent.

Triumphant Transgressions

Barbarous Brutal Death Metal with lots of slamming pit terminator parts –  you can expect that any project that Adrian Cappelletti touches will bear an indelible mark of repugnant savagery, as you hear in the noisy bludgeoning of Lurid Panacea, Incinerated and to a slightly lesser degree Disentomb. Deliquesce has an awesome combo flavour of old Ripping Corpse, Suffocation and Angelcorpse, and Willowtip Deathgrind like Circle Of Dead Children. Fleshpeeling complex riff battery high end meets bruising mids Bass hammers, impeccably pitched Bass sound squonking beneath sheets of sizzling Guitar, roaring, screaming vocal kill and fluid, formidable drumming defining their mutated, pugnacious brutal Deathgrind sound. Wicked. HELL IS ONLY A WORD.

Urban decayed evil Death Metal scumbag depravity – Combat Shock Black/Death Metal, toxic black thrashing and grinding, wild-eyed like a wounded animal. Trashcan rehearsal room drums, caustic tar black Guitars and foul bass rupture beneath insane low/high inhuman vocal torments, samples of violent disputations heard through paper thin flophouse walls, tons of scabby blast beats and lots of ‘war metal’ Beherit/Blasphemy styled raw primitive blast and disgrace but with the presence of old school knuckle dragger NYDM ala Mortician, bloated with putrid grooves and bass heavy riffs, hideous synth segues nestled like maggots between corpses… Knife-wielding, rotten, scabrous DETH from beneath the city of fear. Reminds me a bit of Nekro Drunkz but waaaay less fun and pervy, and much more stabby and dehumanizing, drenched in fetid 70’s NY geographic specificity and post apocalypse dystopia/Escape From New York prison island hysteria.
