A collaborative work from 2018 featuring Don Bolles, Mitchell Brown, and Joseph Hammer as well as Spacek members Weise and Mumma. Further deviations from ‘Grind’ type from SS – long form resonant drones, layered post music, single tones like wooden fish or cymbals, melodious sounds and chatter float through an inert ambience as samples cut and placed in and out of context. Swelling volume in tape loops, speeding and slowing, a sound bed of confusion building, stabs of contorted drilling Noise and bizarre voices, time examined, very intimate and close. Musique Concrete. Track two features and mélange of broken glass and structure destruction audio dynamite, layering and collaging a diagram of toppling structure, then sounds are removed until chittering clicks and hums remain, rebuilding sounds to again remove. Sissy Spacek never fail to surprise in their sampling and choice of sound sources. ‘Concrete and collage’. Intense, meditative and intronausea-inducing.

Personal and afflicted one-man Black Metal, a carving from total pain and dejection. Chaos Magick Black Death full of blasting and killer riffing, extremely accomplished song writing matched by intensely personal, left-of-genericism concepts and hand made aesthetics, vile microcosmic reproductive organ obsession and extraction, non traditional instrumentation (see the almighty and frankly bombastic saxophone sections in the rapturous ‘The Gland’), fervently intricate arrangements with razor-sharp disharmonious riffing and exceptional rhythm work. At certain junctures there’s a similarity to Incanation and Vassafor, with a Death Metal heft ever-present in these songs, more so than any other Brulvahnatu release I’ve heard. At times stoic and sombre, at others ravenous and exacting, Brulvahnatu is in a space carved for itself. Reminds me also of one of Alex Poole’s recent projects, Skaphe; only here, Kib Sreng is able to weave ambient psychedelia and improvisational feeling patterns into surprisingly majestic, memorable songs. Wonderful album. Check out War Vellum for more Brulvahnatu releases.

Decomposing Death Metal and gurgling Goregrind from Ohio’s Fumigated, featuring members of Lunk, Couple Skate, Pizza Hi Five, Flesh Salad and others too. Creepy, shambling and perverse, Fumigated is full of crawling deathly riffs, blast beats and more mid paced Gore, detuned Guitars and grinding Bass shaping out simply horrible odes to disgust, a backwater sense of humor and disgustingly heavy production. Loud as fuck, gristly and crushing. Think old Broken Hope and Dead Infection sloshing around in a barrel of swamp moonshine and pickled dicks. Fucking great! “WARNING! Not for week pencil necked losers!”

Overdriven noisy Hardcore Punk, burly, savage and unruly. Very effects-heavy, Protocol drench their nihilist fury in dissonant echo and gloaming filth noise, full of hammering heavy handed drumming, furious string attack and reverbed to fukk vocal snarl and yell – it’s moody and fucking pissed, simplistic and powerful. There’s tempo variation and switch ups to pull the rug out and knock you straight on your arse. Breathlessly angry, noisy and aggressive shockwave Hardcore Punk. Cool.

More rampaging Zombie Grindcore carnage from Canada’s Screaming Feast. Gore, Grind and Death – meaty chunks of crusty processed cheeze chord and riff with pulverizing caveman blast beat drum programming, almost fuzzy Bass grinds, gore gurgling low vocal spew, and plenty of choice cut horror film samples. Deathly, blasting gory Grindcore with 90’s 4 track sound. Hammering, corpse ripping, virulent and heavy as fukk. Each Screaming Feast release is adorned with a marvelously retrograde black and white zombie head collage image and variably unreadable splatter logo, another indication of the quality of degraded, handmade content within. Screaming Feast is the horrific fuckin’ business. Nigths of terror, indeed.

Cruel suicidal proto-Doom occult Rock from Argentina. Tonnes upon tonnes of tone and fuzz, vile necrotic Stoner riffs, swinging fluid rhythms and wailing Vocal sorrow to vampirize your sobriety. Mephistofeles has a bloody minded and red eyed approach to their satanic Stoner Rock that makes many other peddlers of these genre stereotypes seem tame, neutered and horribly tasteful by comparison. Down-trodden, abused and high, with occult atmospheres and crepuscular creaking keys and samples abound, marrying a doom laden vibe and intent with it’s fuzz mastery Stoner Rock groove. Bad vibes ascension, bad production nirvana. Grimy, filthy and slow, putrid Rock n Roll straight from the fucking dankest crypt. Crucial…

Esoteric Noisecore Black Metal from international project Nirriti, with three members lurking near the event horizon of the Canadian and Indian Black Metal, Power Electronics and Grindcore scenes. Disharmonious cacophony, warfare and ultimately ego death – Stream the anti-cosmic nihility into the third eye chakra – It’s fukken game over! Extremely disruptive and anti-cognizant Black Noisecore from the deathless abyss – sampled worship, field recordings of ritual and performance, chanting, eruption of unstoppable molten blast beats flow like sonic larva, electronically destroyed Guitar sounds channeled into ear splitting, anti-dharmic Noisecore and fuming black psychedelia. Grindcore, Black Metal, Noisecore… a foul, noisy and taxing paradigm indeed. This one isn’t available to download, so stream it below. Nirriti is now invoked…
