Depraved War Noise Sludge from the shell shocked minds of K.S. and D.N.E., also of the irrepressible and inexplicable Tsalal and  Black Abyss. Barbarous and corpulent black sludge noise, looming sky-blackening barrages of artillery blast percussions mix mid paced war blasts and yet slower canon dirges, bass heavy drudge of grinded mangled riffs blown apart, insane battlefield distorted echo wyrd vocal incantations proclaim orders and liturgies across the line, drone infrared patterns exposed prone forms in the sweltering jungle, tracers shatter the treeline… doomed wartorn Psych(o)edelia, dread violent Sludge and Grind sturm und drang. Bloody mud in the fields of fucking death! The cassette features some excellent prison art style, demonic forms painted across riverbanks as manifestations of conflict like battlefield phantasm trading cards, vile totems of pyrrhic victory. Canned heat – Contents under pressure – front towards enemy.

A fat gelatinous wad of gore soaked Death/Gore/Grindcore from drum machinegunner Gross Load. Delirious with mongo-grooves and surging soupy gore riffs gushing bubbling liquid ichor, shockingly fluid and dynamic, sinew bound to the steaming drum machine beneath, hammering banging and slamming with rictus tight programmed blasts and tupa-tupa mince/thrash beat breakdowns, unwieldy and clattering, slathered with ultra brutal hamsandwich deth vocal. Deadly and megafast, groovy and girthy. ‘Exposed To Forbidden Knowledge’ reminds me of ANb’s ‘The Glue That Binds Us’ 7″, those tracks featuring a deathly flavour to the riffing and with that absurd and bizarre mondo vocal, an atmosphere of antisocial insanity and insalubrity that Gross Load shovels out here in sloppy, chuggy, gooey bucketfuls. Killer shit! I’ll be investigating their full length offerings next.

Calcinated is a pathological Goregrind/Deathgrind project from Mexico, featuring members of a host of reprehensible Goregrind and Gorenoise bands including Putrefuck, Septic Autopsy and the reprehensibly disgusting Fetal Deformity to name just three.  Anatomical old school as fuck Goregrind pungent with the influence of very old death metal and early grindcore, replete with razor sharp metallic guitar elements and rife with ping snare and raw 00’s production, a diabolical combination of goregrind symptoms resultant in a truly cadaverous and memorable record. Rhythms veer from mid paced punk gore stomp to very fast and detailed deathgrinding blasting abandon, bizarre breakdowns and deathly double bass grooves abound, with complex lithe riffing besmirched by noisy production, howling pitch-shifted bleghs and creepy retching Carcass worshipping vocal, and flesh ripping sonorous lead guitars, littered with overwrought sampling (as dogma demands). Calcinated is at least a severed head above the competition here. Wretched!

Thanatopsis’ 2010 demo/EP ‘Defleshed In Excrements’, an all-too-short gorging of ecstatically, hideously decayed Goregrind excellence. I first became aware of this international project reading through A. Ringdahl/Hyperemesis’s interview on the now deceased Braindead Zine, and seeking out their excellent split together. Properly putrefied and shambolic, caste of dread deadly Death and Grind riffing and brief blasting noisy song structure, clotted rictus drumming ridden with filth and stench, vocal of the decomposed roars and wretches with agonising pitch shifted putrefaction, each odious sound captured in obscure, gutterbloated 4 track-sounding tape. Exceptionally raw, filthy, punk as fuck Goregrind from corporeal degeneration and morbid biological disgust.  Aside from their massively overlooked full-length ‘Stages Of Decomposition’, this is my favourite Thanatopsis material. Exhume and consume, ghouls.

No Physical Productions

A work of low rent bulldozing passionate Gore brutality from solo project Tolerances of the Human Face In Crash Impacts, as ballardian as their name may (or may not) suggest. Massive, disgusting, moronic DI electronic Goregrind shot through with a horrid Crust influence and a loud, earscraping mix, exuding the raw stench of anti-human hatred and paradoxical low effort creative compulsion. Catchy groove soaked Bass-less crust riffs pockmark the gore drenched noise wall, crispy burned Drum sounds clatter, crash and boom, bubbling roaring tarman vocal consecrates a vile experience of underground alienation. TxOxTxHxFxIxCxI also experiments with tempo, souring into midpace sturm und drang with minimalist banger ‘Fed Their Own Brains’ and their impressive cover of D-Beat warriors Disclose’s ‘Conquest’. Bearing a striking, sickening resemblance to the various projects of A. Ringdahl or the mighty Dysmenorrheic Hemorrhage,  TxOxTxHxFxIxCxI reminds the intrepid, exhausted seeker of a valuable lesson: never stop plumbing the murky depths. Unheralded excellence.

The Kill’s ‘Shower Of Bricks’ is an abrupt, unstoppable blast of hyper-velocitrous Grindcore in thrall to Pazuzu, made particularly piquant by the abstruse drumming of Jay Jones, also vocalist for Fuck…I’m Dead, providing a literal fucking shitstorm behind the kit here: fucker really does sound like a shower of bricks pingin’ off your skull! Careening 3 piece Grindcore pell-mell, superfast and powerful one footed blastbeats and tumult fills, full of chops and extreme power, spazzing thrash riffs and half sawing grindriffs seesawing and slashing into each other in punk-on-steroids madness, high phlegm vocal scrape scream full of utter piss and vinegar for sedentary shoppers, pugilist pub patrons and excessively chatty twats. A debilitating throat strike, death by 1000 blows in less than 330 seconds, Grindcore both technical and truculent. Brief, blunt and brutal as FUKK. This was later released as a split with fellow Aussie grinders Captain Cleanoff, whose self titled EP and full length ‘Symphonies of Slackness’ are excellent and well deserving of your time, but whose tracks here I’m unfamiliar with. “get the fuck outta my way – Before I punch some cunt out”.

Metrorrhagia is a now-ceased project from Gore&Noise purveyor Zach Fogle, also of Morgue Tar, Shotgun Cock, Basic Torture Procedure and I’m sure others. Pustulated, sub grooving, hostile Goregrind with a perfect execution of snare ping blast, wall of tar bass and guitars and roaring subhuman terror gore vocal – it slams and fucking blasts in derisive gory insanity, each D Beat transition to blast part and desecrated, mangled chord crafted to just smash you to gurgling pulp. it’s absolutely fucking diabolically noisy, repugnant and nasty. Gore for true freaks only, zero subtly or digestible riffs, just sicko outsider art raw Goregrind, Autophagia or Last Days Of Humanity style, hand crafted to salivary head crushing perfection. A cultural nadir of prurience and brutal audial niche savagery. Rotten beyond recognition! Heretic Impalement Records presents the complete (and completely painfully brief) discography of Russian Watergrind freaks Hydrocele, with both member’s priors a dizzying list of gory grinding noise atrocity, including the indominable Inopexia and the massively overlooked G/T virus abomination Menometrorrhagia. Soaked, drowned, hand-hewn Gorenoise insanity, taking the ‘Putrefaction in Progress’ formula to a disgusting devotional nadir. Hydrocele grinds with insane aplomb, maximalist blasting Drums providing relentlessly dense power and eyeball-drying velocity, slooshing nuclear bleachtide Guitars conceal mean grind riffs beneath a slime of ear infected digital distortion, dripping with utterly festering pitch shift vocal vomit. Each session has a slightly different density of production, with the 2017 and 2020 EP tracks providing my favourite fukked up sounds in the collection. No Slam, no groove – grisly, grotesque, grinding Gorenoise perfection.

Slaughter Of The Innocent’s 2002 demo is old school noisy Grindcore mania mana just as it should be, a pitch-perfect blur of superfast brutal proper one-footed blast beats, rumbling grinding bass audial flood to loosen teeth and deathly guitars sawing out crusty mangled grind riffs, with low grunt high squawk vocal tirade, slamming and stomping from thrash to blast, a perfect summation of what the genre requires, a few goofy bad song titles aside. Total blast beat bulldozer! Even the obligatory Napalm Death and Repulsion covers are right on the fucking money, for all their lack of imagination. This could have come out a decade earlier and I’d be none the wiser. I was familiar with this band for their excellent split with the fearsome Sakatat, and I’m very pleased to have gone back to this demo. Fans of real deal Grindcore ala Dahmer, Warsore, Tumor or Gore Beyond Necropsy, take heed!

EMBTS was James F. Tarr, a legendary lo fi Gore/Noisecore project which may be known to you if you, like me, spent much of the late 00’s and the 10’s seeking out Grind, Gore and Noise across a plethora of blogspot caches and soulseek profiles. Iconoclastic Noisecore from beyond taste or decency, living contaminant pre-genre Gorenoise formed in radioactive poverty, low tek aqueous shitnoise bubbling with misanthropic rage and psychotic confusions, industrial trash, lo fi smash and grumble, groaning screaming vocal nauseatingly mashed with effects, super raw lo fi savant blasting drums, a massaker of Bass noise crackles and fizzes amidst a deleterious din of unidentifiable source, seemingly recorded on a boombox or 4-track. Mechanically separated gorenoisecore, cultural and social refuse made sonic mass, absolutely crude and resolutely berserk in it’s outsiderness. Along with bands like Anal Birth and Decomposing Serenity, EMBTS forged a new low in acceptability and hostility, a rebuke to civility and consensus wrought in blast beats and home made opprobrium. Breathing Problem Productions

Split release from Mortville Noise maniacs Captain Three Leg and old-timer new-comers Burt Bacharach. Captain Three Leg provides a menu of short, sharp grinding strikes against the tide of fickle scene interest and goregrind goobers, stirring the pot with a shit-eating grin and bringing the laughs, their hetero-normative grump superfast Hardcore with blast beats and lyrical causticisms having been honed to a thing of shiny perfection. Still the finest samplers in the game. Burt Bacharach is a newer project featuring Tim Morse on drums, working at a scarcely populated Blurcore revival, insane speed worshipping Noisegrind intensity and silly-yet-deadly sonic weight ala early Anal Cunt, Sore Throat and Seven Minutes of Nausea. Dude is channeling Putnam in the deranged sick vocal delivery, tar-thick Guitar/Bass sound rumbles and grinds over blasting meatball blasts. Fucking killer, fucking fast, simple and perfect. Great split, as you can basically always expect from ol’ Mortville. Grab a CD.

Mortville Noise

Impious cataclysmic Black Death War Gore Metal from fukk knows where (I’m pretty sure one of these freaks lurks in Flint, Michigan…) glowering with overwhelming outsider hostility. Anti-dogmatic rhythms blast and groove with near-Industrial elements grinding in mid-pace with an anvil-strike snare; mean, ugly, accursed Guitars casting grind, gore and DETH riffs, damned in leaden fires of booming lo-fi production, a raking torment of remorselessly heavy corpse-bloated Bass, adorned with hazardous, hissing, cackling vocal of the fukked up and perverse, tainted with ghastly effects. Heaving, seizured, molten Death Black Metal of violent persecution, dangerous and fukking ravenous. Like Catasexual Urge Motivation, Black Mass of Absu or Bestial Putrefaction, Hematoma operates in a sound that’s difficult to pin down to extant genre tropes, as it pulls every extremity into it’s carbonised black hole vortex to create absolutely VILE, truly impetuous Black Death Metal for the end tymes (hopefully). Pestilential and sordid, prison Satanism, homeless urban occultism, malformed victims crucified upside down… verminous. Be afraid.

Purulent Goregrind split from two of yesterday’s gory darlings. Both bands were absolutely killing the game when this was released, albeit with different volumes of output. Pancreatectomie is a criminally overlooked Goregrind band from the States , dealing out pulverising punk-as-fukk toilet Goregrind from beyond taste and decency. Sawing crusty Grindriffs, turbocharged blasts and D-Beats, pitch-shifted gurgling vocal spewing Gore with a connoisseurs soupçon of drooling Death Metal influence amidst the punk drumming and sloppy Bass slime. Canadian punks G.O.D hew slightly closer to classic Grindcore ala FETO Napalm and Repulsion, their Goregrind hums along with terrible heft and pace, glowering with humanist outrage. Aggression amped to fuck, they steam through 10 withering tracks with deadly sharp Guitar whipping out obtuse deathly grind excellence, maniacally fast drumming and deranged aggro low end vocal both pitched down and un-effected. Both sides are recorded extra loud, with clarity of audio and little atmosphere or mastering. A glorious fucken blaster.

Super short EP from Finnish grindfuckers Tunkio, two man crusty Grindcore crammed to the brim with crust chord gore and zealous blast beats! Combines ideas from Finnish Hardcore, Gore and Crust to create a disgusting homunculi of foetid underground Grindcore, in the tradition of Parazitozis or Hyperemesis. Short songs stuffed with superfast warped blur crust chord rippers, bass-less and barbed to brutal perfection, pinned down with hyperfast crude drumming adorned with trashcan snare, mincing and blasting with some Hardcore parts too, topped with pitched down pukefeast vocal slime and burned into loud tape demo recording quality. Ablaze with deliriant energy and roaring with disillusioned outrage. Killer anime samples too. Dankness. Snag a 7″ from Iron Corpse!

Pennsylvania’s Tartarus Horde with their second demo, a feast of scowling, grinding Death Metal with ancient dark fantasy themes. Imbued with extremely prominent barbarous low vocal death commands, savage sawbladed evil riffs with intense archaic Heavy Metal/Speed Metal style, and thrashing, blasting drumming, heavy on the dense slow movements and played with deranged verve and violence. Flaying dexterous solo work, perfectly pitched Bass twang conquest, and an unexpected and excellent track of brightly twilit dungeon dwelling synth bloop. Despotic and fucking warlike, nasty Death Metal/Deathgrind violence captured within a very old school separated right/left Bass/Guitar mix with dry atmosphere. Reminds of violent Death Metal ala Torture Rack, but with a hefty sludgy smear of Grindcore influences adorning it’s tattered standards. Blood drenched tyrannic savagery!

Absolute Power Productions

Vile Horrendous Aerial Bombardment is a now-ceased Noisegrind project from members of Sissy Spacek, Oscillating Innards and others, producing ballistic bulldozing Noisecore with lightning drum changeups. This is their only full length, recorded in 2012 and posthumously released by Nerve Altar. VHAB apparently utilises a hand-made arsenal of ‘disinstruments’ in creating their decimating, callous blast of mid frequency phosphoric Noisegrind opprobrium, 1-2-3-4 count savage low/ strangulated high loud vocal exchange, dynamic caustic Noise bass slaw shockwave, politiking samples, deploying D Beats and leaden thrash parts in the mega heavy drumming to accent melody-less granite slab blasts of bass string contusion, bruising and brutal to the extreme. Noxious, violent, excellent. Aside from Arsedestroyer, this reminds me most of Knelt Rote (for whom C.Mumma also drums), particularly their record ‘Trespass’, but with all of the Black Metal context scorched away, leaving a waring, noisy alloy surface full of bullet holes. If you dig on Arsedestroyer, old Fear Of God or any of the projects that share members with VHAB, hesitate no further.

Nerve Altar

Nasty little split 7″ between Australian punks Hexx and Shitgrinder. Hexx features members of Territory and the excellent Warcycle (I think), playing some exceptionally aggro Crustcore that leans into Stenchcore Metallic riffermania sound but sacrifices no brevity of song length, making for some seriously rowdy Crust bangers. Dense metallic riffing and chugging, rumbling tank bass squashed into a suitcase of fast blasting/mid paced lumbering Crustcore, with warlike bellowing and foggy atmosphere, some killer sampling too. Furious and doomed, wicked shit. Shitgrinder is one of the best Grindcore bands in the current international crop. They belt out a lean and mean as FUKK Grind sound, streamlined to cruise at blasting or stampin’ speed, super minimal, concise blasters with leaden buzzing mids Guitar sound scaffolded to super snappy, detailed precision thrash’n’blast Drumming, kicked up the arse and sent flying propulsively skyward with old school grind vocal high/low tradeoffs. Crusty and bloody neckbreaking Grindcore with stomping breakdowns and tempo deviations to surprise and provoke immediate violence to peers. Nekro Drunkz, Oregon’s filthiest sons, here summon a horrific amalgam of Thrashing dummy Death Metal and punk as fukk toilet burbling Goregrind. Deathly, insanely maniacal head banging pervert trash Thrash and absolutely decimating wall-of-shit Gore/Grindcore – Chaotic and intense, erect, violent and steaming fucken drunk. Necrotized and insane sounding, callous and perverse. In taking sound cues from all the squelchiest, stinkiest elements of Deathgrind, Death Metal, Grindcore, Goregrind, Thrash and maybe even a bit of Crusty Punk, Nekro Drunkz have conjured an avalanche of septik deth straight from the bowels of fukken hades. Mad catchy headbang (handbang?) summoning riffing, stomping thrashed out drumming with lots of blast beats, and furious gurgling perv vocal upchuck and roaring poser decimation. This album is a seriously good time. And that cover art is obviously sikk as fukk. Completely essential.

Deathly Goregrind and sleazy Death Metal from Derek & Haga Chan, conjured in “the smelly basement” in 2018. Broad foreheaded drooling necro Death Metal and E-Coli riddled Goregrind sewn up into a filthy stinking Autopsy simulacra laden with leaden one foot blast beats. Virulent disgusting Guitars cranked up into complex Haga-riff overdrive, all deadly and vile with degenerate lethal metallic noodle riffs matched with punk putrid drumming, very heavy and heaving with groove and concrete footed blasts, and bilious vocal retch and spew besides. Hefty, hoary production with plenty of clarity and volume. A putrid pungent breath of Goregrind, deathly serious riff feast and metalpunking puke violent fun for all!

Discos Al Pacino

Oath of Cruelty with their 2012 EP ‘Hellish Decimation’, two tracks of the other OTHER War Metal, summoning the murderous intensity and hammering barbarian Teuton Thrash of ‘Tapping The Vein’ era Sodom and dialing everything beyond taste and decency via berzerker blast beats and Death Metal aural dimensions. Replete with temple crushing grooving Thrash riffs and stacked up infernal rhythms, disastrously lethal leads frothing with bloodlust and razor throated vocal from Hades. Deathleaping from blitzing fast Death Thrash mayhem to full-on pit frenzy mid-paced near-crossover thrashing murder, massive tom strikes prelude the devastation as posers are wasted in no mans land amidst the chugging, fist banging riff affront. Guitars are provided by Dave Callier, he of the mighty Texan Grindcore institution P.L.F., and there are many similarities between the two band’s mean-as-fukk riffing styles to be found here. Boundless, blasting Death Thrash perfection borne of cruel, maniac zeal and fleet-footed fervor. Concrete production provides a deadly weight and martial power to these tracks. ‘Hellish Decimation’, indeed.
