JUDD MADDEN – ‘DROWN’

Image

Crushing one man Doom from Judd Madden. ‘Drown’ is the darker counterpoint to the lighter, ethereal ‘Float’, available here and also well worth a listen. You can read a short interview about the two records here. Overdriven guitars, spacious, thundering drums with upbeat moments and a really rocking, groovy vibe surfacing here and there. I hear some Melvins influence in this, alongside more traditional Doom influence like Black Sabbath and Pentagram. Super down-tuned but not entirely miserable, with lots of solos scattered throughout. I like the fact that it’s instrumental also, and the production is very lush and deep. Entrancing.
